Who Is Ejo Hazaza?
The future of tomorrow, this is the literal translation of Ejo Hazaza into the English language. But to the people of Rwanda those two words encapsulate the spirit of a new nation that seeks to live out those words day to day.
But before being able to look forward to the future of tomorrow, the country's past is one racked for generations with strife and turmoil culminating in the 1994 Genocide. In that furnace many children suffered and died as their families were torn from them in a way that only a tragic few understand.
One of these few who have survived this tragedy is Serge Gasore who used the furnace of his past to forge himself into a person embodying the spirit of the future of tomorrow. After witnessing so much and experiencing more than many will ever bare, he pursued a life of education and athletics that lead him to win a scholarship to study in the United States. Here he is gaining an education while preparing to return home and use his experiences to help his country achieve its potential in the future of tomorrow.
For him, this future is the neglected children of Rwanda who will grow to be the inheritors of a country of opportunity. But, in order for them to see this future, Serge set out to help these neglected children by aiding in the provision of their most fundamental of needs: basic medical care. He, with the help of others, has begun to raise and distribute donations allowing for accounts to be set up in local Rwandan hospitals for children that the Rwandan government has identified as in need of assistance in order to live.
With a small amount of people donating, he has already been able to help hundreds of children set up accounts they can access for the next year to provide medical care. But this is only the beginning for Ejo Hazaza: Serge is planning of not only expanding the provision of basic medical services but to eventually found a Children's Home. This will provide a home for those orphaned by the past and a place to gain an education to help build the future of tomorrow.
